Keep your expertise up to date and meet your Permanent Education (PE) requirements with short programmes at the Amsterdam Business School. This page explains how PE works and for who it is.

What is Permanent Education?

Permanent Education (PE) is structured, ongoing professional development you undertake each year to keep your expertise current and demonstrable. With our short programmes at the Amsterdam Business School, you deepen your knowledge, develop your skills, expand your network and meet your PE obligations at the same time.

Who is Permanent Education for?

Permanent Education is intended for professionals who are subject to a professional or quality-assurance system in which permanent education is mandatory. Our short programmes align well with the PE requirements of professional bodies such as the VRC and NBA, among others. They are suitable for executives, senior managers and professionals in roles such as:

  • Registered Accountant (RA)
  • Registered Controller (RC)
  • Financial Controller
  • Business Controller
  • Auditor

Professionals affiliated with other professional bodies or quality systems will also find programmes at the UvA that match their learning goals.

Permanent Education at the University of Amsterdam – How it works

For many professions, you must earn a set number of PE points each year or compile a portfolio that tracks your professional development. Check your professional bodies' website for the exact PE requirements that apply to you. Within our portfolio, you can then choose short programmes that align with both these requirements and your personal learning goals.

At the University of Amsterdam, you can meet your PE obligations through our broad and up-to-date range of short programmes on socially relevant themes such as AI, finance, sustainability, leadership and personal development. Our programmes draw on the latest academic insights and combine theory with a hands-on approach, delivered by experienced industry practitioners.

Getting started – Where to find PE information for each programme

On the programme pages and in the brochures, you will find all the information you need for your PE administration, including:

  • Workload and PE points: how many days the programme lasts and how many PE points it yields.
  • Content and learning objectives: a clear description of the topics and what you will learn. This helps you formulate your technical or personal learning objectives and register the programme correctly for your PE.
  • Certificate of attendance: for most programmes you will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion, which you can use for your PE record.
