How current developments transform the finance industry

In our Technology and Finance classes we highlight how current developments in technology transform the finance industry. Students will learn new methods of investing such as algorithmic trading, how artificial intelligence and machine learning impact the finance industry as well changes in payment methods due to the emergence of blockchain technology.

You can choose from 4 different courses on Technology in Finance.

  • Data Analytics and Quantitative Trading

    This course teaches how to apply computing technology to financial trading strategies. You will gain insights into how financial trading strategies depend on relationships between different securities’ prices, or between prices and firm characteristics.

    Schedule in academic year 2023-2024:*

    Lectures: November-December, once a week on Tuesdays.
    First class: 31 October 2023
    Times: 18:30-22:00
    Assessment: Homework assignments and individual take-home assignment
    Application deadline: 14 October 2023

  • Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in Finance

    This course deals with the opportunities and limitations of the current state-of-the-art in machine learning and AI technologies, and how they relate to potential future applications in finance and beyond.

    Schedule in academic year 2023-2024:

    Lectures: February-March, once a week on Thursdays.
    First class: 8 February 2024
    In addition to lectures we offer three (non-mandatory) tutorial sessions.
    Times: 18:30-22:00
    Assessment: Individual assignment - machine learning project
    Application deadline:  January 2024

  • Fintech: Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies and Smart Contracts

    This course covers digital currencies, blockchains, and any threats that blockchain technology poses to incumbent businesses and their subsequent attempts to co-opt the technology into existing business models.

    Lectures: 6 lectures between 3 June and 14 June.
    First class: 3 June 2024
    Times: 18:00-22:00
    Assessment: Individual research paper

  • Applied Blockchain

    This course is designed to explore and experiment with Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) and how these technologies impact financial markets and the greater financial services ecosystem.

    Schedule in academic year 2022-2023:*

    Lectures: June, two consecutive weeks on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays.
    First class: 17 June 2024
    Times: 18:00-22:00
    Assessment: Individual paper
    Application deadline:  June 2024
