Honours research project: climate change and sea level rise

Extreme weather will become more frequent and intense: the KNMI'23 climate scenarios expect the Netherlands to face wetter winters, hotter and drier summers, rising sea levels and more frequent extremes in river discharge. Managing water shortages, flooding and flood risk will grow substantially, and the country will keep its AAA climate resilience only if it prepares in time through smarter design and use of space, with faster progress and difficult decisions on water management, land use and spatial planning. This project focuses on the economic consequences of different long-term responses to flooding from sea or rivers: protect versus managed retreat or accommodate.

Specific courses

You take the Economics Honours programme (15 ECTS) alongside your 1-year Economics MSc. Besides being able to choose your specialisation track, the Honours programme adds 2 extra courses and a research project to your MSc.
