International Finance and Trade is one of the tracks you can opt for in our Master's in Economics. Take a look at the other tracks.
This track takes a predominantly macroeconomic lens to some of the most pressing questions in the global economy: from the instability of international capital flows and currency crises to the economic rise of China and recent developments in trade policy across the globe. Courses like International Finance, International Economic Cooperation and International Trade Theory and Policy give you a rigorous theoretical foundation, while Applied Econometrics ensures you can test ideas against real data through regression analysis and hands-on computer lab sessions. In the Research Seminar you learn to present and defend your findings in an academic setting, sharpening both your analytical and communication skills.
In a world of trade wars, financial crises and shifting global power, organisations, corporations, governments and think tanks need economists who can make sense of the big picture, and that is what this track trains you to do. You develop the kind of broad, theory- and evidence-based perspective that employers in the public and private sector are actively looking for. The programme's strong emphasis on econometrics and independent research means you graduate with knowledge and with the ability to generate and communicate your own well-founded conclusions, a skill that sets you apart in a competitive job market.
The track covers a broad terrain (monetary relations, trade theory, financial crises, globalisation and development), and keeping up with the pace of a 1-year programme while mastering advanced macroeconomic models is a real challenge. The Applied Econometrics course is a steep learning curve for many students, as is the transition from absorbing theory to producing original research in the thesis. This breadth and intensity is what makes graduates so versatile and so well prepared for careers in a rapidly changing global economy.
