Cybersecurity as a strategic priority

In an era where digital threats and data breaches pose increasing risks, cybersecurity has become a strategic priority for organisations worldwide. Dekker’s teaching goes beyond risk identification and mitigation: he equips students to embed cybersecurity into broader business strategy. His approach includes attention to technical, legal, ethical, and governance-related aspects.

Background

Dekker obtained his PhD in mathematics from the UvA in 1997. Since 2020, he has been affiliated with the University as a Visiting Professor, conducting research in collaboration with PhD candidates. In addition, Dekker serves as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at ABN AMRO Bank, where he is responsible for the digital security of millions of clients. With over 25 years of experience, he has been recognised as one of the world’s top 100 most influential leaders in the field. Dekker is a sought-after speaker, educator, and author.

‘Martijn Dekker joining the Amsterdam Business School means we’re welcoming a leading expert in the field', says ABS Dean Marc Salomon. 'He has a unique ability to translate complex cybersecurity challenges into actionable strategies. His combination of in-depth academic knowledge and practical experience is of great value to our students as well as to research with real-world impact.’
