'I decided to participate in the masterclass Introduction to Cultural Psychology because I was looking for a masterclass that could introduce me to key psychological concepts while still aligning with my career in human resources. As an expat, I was particularly interested in exploring how I could apply my lived experiences to the psychological principles underlying them.'

'Participating in the masterclass at the Amsterdam Business School was my first in-person formal learning experience in a long time. The facilities were very well-equipped, with plenty of break-out spaces that sparked interesting conversations with fellow students. Everything was well-organised, and I found it easy to access materials and navigate around the campus, making the experience enjoyable.

During this masterclass, I gained valuable insights that can be directly applied to my work as a human resource professional, especially when working with diverse groups across borders. However, 3 key learnings stood out:

  • Connect with the human being: Misunderstandings often arise because we fail to listen and instead make assumptions rather than asking questions.
  • Culture is layered: It encompasses the depth of human emotions, behaviours, and the values we identify as important to ourselves.
  • A high-performing team is built on knowing each other: This involves forming deep connections despite differences and leveraging those differences to achieve common goals.

The best feature of the masterclass was the peer-to-peer learning with students from diverse backgrounds and unique experiences. This allowed me to not only learn from the professor’s insights, but also to translate those insights into meaning for myself and the lived experiences of others.

I strongly encourage professionals working in the fields of global mobility, organisational development, or as senior human resources business partners to include this masterclass in their development plans. It enhances self-awareness and offers a fresh perspective on current challenges.

This masterclass is a fantastic opportunity to step away from your daily job for two days, learn from others, spark creativity, and develop a new skill set that you can immediately apply in your workplace.'
