The UvA’s DSC (Data Science Centre) has awarded funding through its Accelerate Programme for a new data scientist to join the Operations Management group of the Amsterdam Business School (ABS). The data scientist will help augment the ‘Analytics for a Better World’ initiative.

The ABS Operations Management group is conducting research in supply chain analytics, urban analytics, healthcare analytics, regulatory and legal data analytics, and humanitarian analytics. The group has combined the research under ‘Analytics for a Better World’ (ABW), a new international initiative of the University of Amsterdam and MIT (Cambridge, USA).

Role of the new data scientist

The data scientist will help increase societal and scientific impact of different ABW projects at UvA EB. More specifically, the tasks of the new data scientist will include:

  • Data gathering and handling.
  • Developing prototype software for innovative both predictive and prescriptive analytics.
  • Applying new methodology to different use cases.
  • Helping consolidate datasets, software tools and libraries resulting from different projects.
  • Assistance in grant acquisition.
  • Assistance in valorisation initiatives based on the output of different research projects.

About the UvA Data Science Centre

The DSC aims to enhance the university’s research by developing, sharing and applying data science methods and technologies. Through its Accelerate Programme, the DSC will support faculties as they pursue data driven research and stimulate the hiring of data scientists and engineers. The programme is not only intended to facilitate knowledge exchange throughout the university, but also incentivise the integration of these roles into existing research activity.
