This series introduces us to a different employee every week. Find out what they most enjoy about their job and learn things you might not know about them yet. This week: Martin Kapons, ABS researcher at the Accounting section.

What do you like most about your job?

I like the fact that I am able to work on research topics that I am truly interested in. Those topics include, for example, how to best measure a company’s performance, and how investor expectations are formed.

What project from the past year are you most proud of?

I am really enthusiastic about a project in which my co-authors and I developed a model to forecast corporate earnings. It is based on a simple method that compares the past earnings of comparable companies to predict the future earnings of the specific firm. By extending the pattern of past earnings, we can forecast the future earnings for that company. We found that this method works effectively, even though it's simple, and works better than previously developed models.

What don’t most colleagues know about you?

I am an avid fan of heavy metal, especially of Iron Maiden.
