Introduction

The constituent projects of this doctoral dissertation apply econometric causal inference techniques to examine how retailing can be made more responsible. By leveraging quasi-experimental settings, the projects uncover effects of retailer actions, governmental policies, and environmental changes on consumers’ consumption behavior. We study heterogeneous effects across retailers, consumer segments, brands, and products to generate managerially relevant insights.
