Summary

After years of witnessing the rise of the Earth’s global temperature, climate change is acknowledged by many as the defining issue of our time. Accordingly, civil society actors pursuing the interests of future generations by demanding action to address climate change continue to gain a strong presence in the global business environment. Specifically, while businesses have been acknowledged to profoundly contribute to the climate crisis, e.g. through their greenhouse gas emissions, civil society has increasingly advocated for businesses to take responsibility and address this global problem. Hence, climate change has proved itself an interesting domain of diverse interactions, ranging from conflict to cooperation, between civil society and business. The main goal of this PhD project is to develop a thorough understanding of civil society-business interactions with regard to the current climate crisis and the outcomes of these interactions for both business and society.
