The rise of new technologies has a significant impact on the world of work. Increasingly, algorithms are being introduced into businesses and are taking over roles that used to be performed by humans. Algorithmic management, for example employed by platform organizations like Uber, Deliveroo & AirBnB, is shaping new organizational dynamics. With algorithms gaining influence and replacing or enhancing human decision-making, it is essential to understand the implications for organizations and individuals.
The PhD project aims to study the impact and psychological experience of algorithmic management on organizational members: What are the psychological costs and benefits of algorithmic management? How does algorithmic management affect performance, motivation, well-being, organizational behaviors and leadership? What are individual and contextual factors that foster successful human-AI collaboration? These are important questions that the research project will try to answer.
