The Amsterdam Business School recently held another successful edition of our business seminar series UvA in DeLaMar/Royal Theatre Carré. Students and guests had the opportunity to listen to inspirational speakers from major (international) companies. The last session (see programme below) was held on Friday, 8 March. (13:00 - 13:45) Tiemen ter Hoeven (Founder & CEO of Roetz-Bikes) (43) is the founder and CEO of Roetz-Bikes. After founding Roetz-Bikes in 2011 with the dual mission of social inclusivity and circularity, Tiemen has driven social and sustainable change for over a decade. Bringing a circular automotive concept to the bicycle industry, Tiemen set a basis for what is now an established circular bicycle manufacturer in the Netherlands. In 2015, Roetz set up their first Fair Factory in Amsterdam, which paved the way for today’s active social training programme that has created a safe place to work, guiding and matching people to jobs in the bicycle industry in the Netherlands. With a major step in innovation, Roetz recently launched the Life modular e-bike, a circular answer to the ongoing and waste-generating e-bike boom.

 

(14:00 - 14:45) Martijn Bijmolt (Director Impact at Het Goed) is a devoted impact entrepreneur and seasoned business leader who champions circular initiatives for positive change. With a deep-seated commitment to sustainability and social impact, Martijn excels in innovating business models prioritizing environmental responsibility. As a Pieter Pot co-founder, he drove remarkable growth, amassing 50,000 customers and 10 million euros in revenue, saving 3M packages annually. Despite successes, Pieter Pot faced reorganizations and bankruptcy in 2023, a profound learning experience for Martijn. Now, as Het Goed's Director, he pioneers expansion and innovative store formulas, embodying resilience and a commitment to lasting positive change.

(13:00 - 13:45) Robert Metzke (Philips Global Head of Sustainability) spearheads Philips’ Sustainability endeavors, shaping innovative, sustainable business models and embedding circular practices company-wide. Focused on environmental responsibility, he emphasizes climate action, circular economy, and healthcare access for underserved communities, aligning with Philips' mission to enhance health and well-being. Formerly a McKinsey & Company consultant, Metzke brings 5 years of expertise in high-tech, healthcare, and public sectors. Recognized as a top 10 sustainability leader by Business Insider, he led Philips to carbon neutrality in 2020 and secured Science Based Targets initiative approval for greenhouse gas reduction targets..

Mona de Boer is Data & AI partner at PwC Netherlands, where she leads the Responsible AI and Digital Ethics practice. In this role she supports organisations to responsibly accelerate their business innovation and digital transformation efforts with the use of advanced data technology and (generative) artificial intelligence. In addition to her role at PwC, Mona is an educator and academic researcher at the University of Amsterdam.

(14:00 - 14:45) Barbara de Koning Gans (Executive Director Customer Operations at VodafoneZiggo) 

Gans joined VodafoneZiggo in August 2021 as Executive Director Customer Operations and Digital Transformation. In her role, she leads a broad portfolio including customer centricity and operational and (digital) process effectiveness. Before joining VodafoneZiggo, Barbara was responsible for marketing & customer contact of many different companies and in different branches. From banking to healthcare to telco. Her focus is always to give the voice of both customers and employees an important role. She inspires, brings people and organisations to their essence and develops their strengths. Her professional life is all about changing and moving forward. Where the balance between results for people and organisation is key. Barbara is passionate about Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and MBO education. Being responsible for large number of people, both subjects land on her desk regularly. As a ambassador of Stichting GURUZ, a Foundation to reduce the knowledge gap between MBO education and the labour market, she actively tries to influence our generic view on and the position of the MBO.
