This recognition is a significant achievement. The OMT division is the largest within the Academy of Management and this year received a record 659 paper submissions. With over 13,400 participants, the Annual Meeting is the world’s largest and most prestigious conference in the field of management.

About the article

The paper, titled Assembling the market puzzle: Social movements, opportunity configurations, and market formation, explores how new sustainable markets emerge. It was written together with Todd Schifeling (Temple University, USA) and Brandon Lee (University of Melbourne, Australia).

The authors conducted an historical, mixed-methods study of the solar energy market across several European countries. Their research shows how entrepreneurs, established firms, and social movements interact in diverse political and cultural settings to either enable or block the rise of new industries. The findings offer fresh insights into how sustainable industries develop across countries and are particularly relevant for policymakers, environmental campaigners, and sustainable business professionals.

About the award

The OMT Best International Paper Award recognises research that addresses issues of global and cross-national importance. Being selected as Runner Up underscores the high international relevance and academic quality this paper.

The OMT division received a record number of submissions this year. In this competitive context, the recognition of Georgallis and his co-authors demonstrates the impact of their research and its contribution to understanding emerging industries.
