Members are appointed for life and the Academy currently has around 550 members. The new Academy members will be inaugurated on Monday, 13 September.
Deanne den Hartog (Professor of Organisational Behaviour at the Amsterdam Business School) is a very productive researcher active in the intersecting fields of business studies, human resource management, leadership studies and organisational psychology. She chooses themes that are high on the social agenda, such as the relationship between job satisfaction and performance, narcissistic leaders, and the importance of diversity in teams. Den Hartog approaches these subjects with an interdisciplinary focus and translates the results into teaching and education for students. Her work stands out for its balanced consideration of both the positive aspects as well as the ‘darker side’ of leadership and its impact on organisations. Her study of the cross-cultural variation of leadership styles is regarded as an authoritative work in the field. Den Hartog is becoming increasingly prolific as a researcher, lecturer and speaker and she is an inspirational role model for many.
UvA scholar and Distinguished Research Professor of Sociology Jan Willem Duyvendak was also selected as a new member of the Academy. Duyvendak is also the Director of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS-KNAW).
