The 2019 VOGON Real Estate Research Award has been awarded to former MBA student Jeroen Beimer (MBA Big Data & Business Analytics 2018) and professor Marc Francke (UvA Professor of Real Estate Valuation). Their prize-winning joint article 'Out-of-Sample House Price Prediction by Hedonic Price Models and Machine Learning Algorithms’ was published in the journal Real Estate Research Quarterly. The publication is based on Beimer’s MBA thesis, supervised by Marc Francke.

An Award Committee selected the paper based on its methodological accountability and relevancy for Real Estate practice after thoroughly reviewing papers published in the journal in volumes 17 and 18. The Committee congratulates the authors on winning this award.

The paper deals with issues related to model-based valuations. The Committee praised the clear analysis provided by the authors, the interesting formulation of the research question, the sound scientific method used for the research, and the practical relevance.
