Abstract:

Data science and artificial intelligence are arguably the hottest topics in all of science. The agenda in these fields is largely set by computer science and engineering, sidelining statistics almost entirely. However, this talk will show that statistics can actually bring a lot to the table. We will look at examples in deep learning, time-series analysis, and extremes, and we will shed light on some of the many intersections of statistics, computer science, and applications.
