Prof. A.M. (Sander) Onderstal

My research interests include auctions, cartels, and behavioral economics. I serve as an associate editor of the European Economic Review (EER) and the Journal of Economics & Management Strategy (JEMS), and I am director of the BSc programme in Economics and Business Economics. From time to time, I advise government ministries, public organizations, and private parties on auctions involving real estate, petrol stations, radio frequencies for mobile telecommunications, and other assets. I live in Haarlem with my wife and our three children, born in 2010, 2012, and 2012. In my spare time, I enjoy watching films and looking for scenes that illustrate fundamental economic concepts and principles. Some of my favorite examples come from Dr. Strangelove, The Informant!, and A Beautiful Mind. Although Hollywood does not always get the economics quite right, I love using scenes from these films in my lectures.
