In January 2021, Eugénie Coche joined the Strategy and International Business Section of the Amsterdam Business School as a PhD candidate. Supervised by Prof. Dr. Ans Kolk and Dr. Martijn Dekker, on a position funded by ABN AMRO Bank, she will explore the information security-privacy-ownership nexus and how organizations deal with technology and stakeholders across borders. Her project will study the business and societal implications of information security considering differential regulatory settings.

After obtaining a bachelor in European Law (with a minor in Dutch law) at Maastricht University, she graduated cum laude from the Research Master Information law at the Amsterdam Institute for Information Law (IViR). During this two-year master, she developed a strong interest for privacy and data protection and concluded with a thesis exploring the ‘interdependent privacy’ phenomenon in light of the GDPR. Her research also covered topics such as internet intermediaries’ regulation, copyright, disinformation in the digital age and ‘open banking’ regulation.

With experience in EU competition law, and reaching the Regional finals of the European Law Moot Court Competition at Columbia University (NYC) and winning the ‘second best team’ award in the all European finals held at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, she developed a particular curiosity for International Business. Such curiosity was recently confirmed in New Zealand, where she got initiated to entrepreneurial activities, confirming her ambition to transition to the international business field and conduct interdisciplinary research with a focus on the financial sector
