Sustainable healthcare is an important field of research. More sustainable practices in the healthcare system reduce the negative impact on the environment and potentially improve the quality of care. Sustainable prosperity is also one of the University if Amsterdam’s strategic priority areas. Both grants - the Sustainable Prosperity Seed Grant and the Amsterdam Public Health Research Institute Quality of Care Grant – were awarded as part of an interfaculty consortium at the UvA.

Reducing environmental impact

Küçükkeles’ and Kourula’s project will explore ways to reduce the environmental impact of healthcare in Amsterdam through a co-creation and systems approach. They first started working with the AUMC as part of the ‘Ethics and Sustainability in Healthcare’ course for the Amsterdam Business School’s MBA Healthcare programme. ‘This initiative is a good example of cross-faculty collaboration in teaching and research. Our course participants worked on a number of sustainability projects in hospitals with their mentors from the AUMC. They were able to provided many new innovative insights such’, says Küçükkeles. Both researchers hope their work will lead to new insights and solutions in healthcare and sustainability.
