The guest speakers, Victor van Bommel and Jeffrey Schwartz both work at real estate investment companies. Van Bommel is the CEO and the founder of Orange Capital Partners and Schwartz is partner of Aevitas Property Partners. With them, we discussed challenges the current environment presents to real estate investing and explored how technology is transforming this complex industry.

It was the perfect opportunity for students and alumni to have an informal discussion and network with experts in real estate. Over 60 participants “zoomed in” at 19:00 CET from Hong Kong to Caribbean islands and San Francisco – the event was off to a great start.

Continuing demand despite decline in building projects

Van Bommel and Schwartz still see a significant pent-up demand for the residential real estate market. Even though not enough buildings will be built, because of the abundance of rules and regulation, inability to create high-rises as well as high prices for land. The impact of COVID-19 and counter cyclical investing was also discussed.

New MIF Alumni Board members

The event was a great opportunity to introduce the 5 members of the MIF Alumni Board: Juan Ruik Beyhaut, Kursad Terzi, Stanislava Prokopova, Guilherme Teixeira and Yang Peng and to bring together the MIF community. The “zoom” format proved that there MIF community is truly international and there are literally no borders to stay connected.
