My doctoral work mainly involves using archival data from the field to empirically examine management control related topics, including and not restricted to performance measures, subjective performance evaluation, and formal versus informal control.
In my job market paper, I examine how the supervisor’s subjective rating behavior changes after the firm introduced a bonus that exclusively rewards the employees for their objective performance outcome. In one of the working papers with my supervisor Jan Bouwens, we document a heterogeneous response from the agents to the firm’s introduction of an additional performance measure, where the seasoned employees are more likely to be resistant with the firm’s implied instruction on what they do. My research has been accepted and invited to present at top research institutes as well as leading academic conferences.
