We describe beacon of the PhD as Identifying business models in the smart energy sector enabled by high performance computing (HPC). In other words, we are studying the traces of the smart energy transition, with a focus in flexibility, markets and aggregators. HPC will be contextualized into the energy sector, narrowing the scope to subjects where its integration brings value to some or all stakeholders. Selected subjects will then be further studied, leading to business models that rely on HPC, within the smart energy sector context. HPC and smart energy are two holistic subjects that are in constant upgrade, shaping our economic, social and environmental landscape. These areas are traditionally distant in academic terms (Energy, Management and HPC), but there is a push from the professional and political environment to connect them. This PhD objective is to bring value for both the academia and the professional contexts.
