Analytics Translator - online programme

In this interactive online programme you will learn how to connect the technical expertise of data scientists to the operational expertise of domains such as marketing, HR and finance. The programme consists of 2 modules: Machine Learning for Analytics Translators (start: Tuesday 27 October) and Data Science in Business for Analytics Translators (start: Thursday 12 November). Choose to follow the entire programme or pick one of the modules, whatever fits your needs best.

  • What will you learn?

    This online programme consists of 2 modules. You can choose to follow 1 or both modules.

    Module 1: Machine Learning for Analytics Translators
    As an analytics translator, you have some knowledge of machine learning and data science, but not to the technical depth at which data scientists do their work. You are uniquely able to approach the project from the viewpoint of the business. This module consists of 4 half-days in which you will gain an understanding of statistics and machine learning. This knowledge will allow you to spot opportunities for techniques that can be used to solve a variety of business problems. No programming skills are needed to follow this module.

    After following this module you will:

    • have a fundamental understanding of machine learning methods.
    • be able to identify business opportunities for machine learning solutions.
    • have knowledge of essential statistical concepts.

    Module 2: Data Science in Business for Analytics Translators
    This module consists of 6 half-days, in which you will learn how you can guide your business through a digital transformation with data science solutions. You will gain an understanding of what it means to write a data science project plan that fits your audience. This will allow you to facilitate a successful implementation of data science techniques within your business. Statistics and machine learning basics are recommended for this module.

    After following this module you will:

    • be able to identify business opportunities for data science solutions.
    • know how to implement a data science project.
    • have an understanding of data visualisation, dashboard design and storytelling with data.
    • have knowledge of data science ethics and regulations, including GDPR.
    • understand data science roles and what kind of teams are needed.
    • know how to write a data science project plan.
  • For whom?

    This course is designed for business professionals in finance, auditing, control, risk, marketing, HR, sales, logistics, supply chain, etc.

    Requirements
    You do not need programming skills to follow module 1 (Machine Learning for Analytics Translators). For module 2 (Data Science in Business for Analytics Translators), statistics and machine learning basics are recommended.

    Module 1: Machine Learning for Analytics Translators

    Dates: Tuesday 27 & Friday 30 October and Thursday 5 & Friday 6 November 2020
    Times: 13:00 - 17:00
    Fee: €1,950*
    If you apply for module 1 and 2 at once, you will receive a package discount of €250

    *UvA alumni get a 10% discount. Fees are VAT-exempt. 

    Module 2: Data Science in Business for Analytics Translators

    Dates: Thursday 12 & Friday 13 November, Thursday 19 & Friday 20 November, Thursday 26 November and Thursday 10 December 2020
    Times: 13:00 - 17:00*
    Fee: €2,450**
    If you apply for module 1 and 2 at once, you will receive a package discount of €250

    *Thursday 26 November: 13:00 - 15:00. On 10 December case presentations will take 30 minutes per participant within time slot 13:00 - 17:00.
    **UvA alumni get a 10% discount. Fees are VAT-exempt.

  • Practical information
    Mode of study: online

    Certification: you will receive a Certificate of Attendance from the University of Amsterdam
    PE hours: Module 1: 14 PE hours for chartered accountants.
    Module 2: 16 PE hours for chartered accountants.
    Let us know if you require PE hours.
  • Teaching staff

    Both modules of the online programme Analytics Translator will be taught by university lecturers and experienced consultants. They will provide you with a combination of shared best practices from a wide range of businesses and academic rigour.
