Mario Schabus has won the American Accounting Association’s (AAA) 2018 Competitive Manuscript Award. Schabus obtained his doctorate last year at the Amsterdam Business School where he was supervised by Dr Peter Kroos and Prof. Frank Verbeeten (ABS Accounting Section).
Currently a lecturer at the University of Melboune , Schabus received the award for his manuscript 'Do Director Networks Help Managers Plan and Forecast Better?' One of his findings was that managers of firms with better connected directors were able to plan more accurately (meaning realised profits were closer to managers' planned profits).
The manuscript is what is referred to as the 'job market paper' comprising part of his PhD thesis. The award will be presented at the AAA annual meeting in Washington DC on 8 August.
