Merlijn Venus (Leadership & Management section) conducted research into the degree to which managers exhibit visionary behaviour in the workplace. The article was published in ‘Journal of Management’.
A unique feature of this study was that a number of managers were followed for a three-week period and they were given daily questionnaires to complete.
One of the conclusions in the article is that managers with a strong leader-identity (those who see the concept of a leader as an essential part of their personal identity) exhibit visionary behaviour more often.
