  • Theories of Leadership and Management

This course gives you the theoretical framework for understanding how to lead and manage people toward organisational success. You will learn what drives individual performance as well as how, when, and why people succeed or fail together in groups and organisations.

  • Leadership

This course gives you an insight into current knowledge on leadership. We will focus on the major outcomes of leadership in terms of employee motivation and behaviour and discuss the ethical considerations and requirements for leadership.

We will also cover real-life examples, practical implications and of course in-depth research in leadership. A critical and motivated attitude is key, as we ask for independent as well as interactive participation.

  • Managing People Strategically

What does it mean to manage people strategically? What choices does this entail? In this course, you will become familiar with up-to-date management theories.

For example: how do organisations gain a competitive advantage through their employees? And what impact does this have on them? Expect interactive sessions in which you participate in discussions, work on case studies and train different managerial skills.

This course includes a company challenge: in teams, you will solve a business problem presented by an organisation.

Real-life case: autonomous teams at is the largest e-retailer in the Netherlands and Flanders. The company has started the SCORE programme to improve the way store teams cooperate with other professional disciplines in multidisciplinary autonomous teams. Contemporary issues

Examples of current and relevant digital marketing issues that could be discussed in class:

  • How do you inspire and motivate people, and build successful firms?
  • How do you align employees’ goals with those of the organization?
  • What makes a leader more charismatic, inspiring, and ethical?
  • How do you show the right leadership behaviors in a certain situation?
  • How do you design, lead, and manage effective teams?
  • How do you manage conflict?
  • Google ranks highly among the ‘best companies to work for’. The multinational offers employees a wide range of extras: a complete playground to spend your work breaks, a mind-blowing workspace and luxury lunch menus. Why does Google do this? How does this help achieve organisational goals? And could this work for other companies?
  • ING and many others are switching to ‘agile working’, leaving their hierarchic structure behind to implement self-managing teams. What consequences does this have for leadership and management? How do you secure an effective work mode, high motivation and focus on the common organisational goal?
