Due to the huge increase in the need for data science professionals, the Amsterdam Business School is expanding it's portfolio of Big Data education from MBA to hands-on in-company programmes and a two-day course ‘Big Data for Managers’.
Big Data is about finding hidden patterns in large data sets. Important disruptive innovations like Amazon.com, Uber and Airbnb are to a large extent based on the opportunities that the internet and in particular the availability of large amounts of “living” consumer data, faster computers and smarter algorithms offer. According to the Nationale Denktank there will be a shortfall of 8,000 Data Scientists in the Netherlands in 2018.
Last September the Amsterdam Business School (ABS) of the University of Amsterdam started Europe’s first MBA in Big Data & Business Analytics: a part-time two-year programme focussing on people with a quantitative background that want to become Data Science specialists and/or managers of Data Science projects within businesses. The programme covers both Data Science topics as well as the traditional topics in regular MBA’s, such as Finance, Marketing and Strategy. The demand for Data Science specialists is growing so rapidly that the ABS started The Analytics Academy. The academy is a joint venture between ORTEC (one of the largest consultancy firms worldwide in Business Analytics), the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Amsterdam, and the Amsterdam Business School.
This academy offers tailor-made programmes in big data to help organisations with their growing demand for data science professionals.
Besides in-company programmes The Analytics Academy offers a two-day course “Big Data for Managers” for managers and consultants who work with analytics projects or teams and need better insight into big data. The first edition is on 29 and 30 March at the ABS, Plantage Muidergracht 12. University of Amsterdam alumni are eligible for a 10% discount for this open programme.
