30 March 2017

Dr. E.E.O. Roos Lindgreen (1965) has been appointed professor of Data Science in Auditing at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Amsterdam (UvA). He combines his position as professor with his role as partner at KPMG.

Edo Roos Lindgreen specialises in the impact of major technological changes on the field of auditing: the independent and impartial inspection of financial and non-financial reports and the processes on which they are based with a view to assuring stakeholders of their reliability.

The technological landscape in which auditors perform their work is becoming ever more complex. Auditors are witnessing an explosion of structured and unstructured data that they can use to their advantage. Roos Lindgreen focuses on accessing and analysing this data using advanced techniques and tools. He is also working on an answer to the following question: how can we use audits to establish that the use of new technologies is secure and reliable and complies with formal and informal standards?

In his capacity as professor, Roos Lindgreen will focus on enhancing education and research in the field of data science in auditing. He will also play an active part in the Amsterdam Platform for Privacy Research, an inter-faculty research platform on privacy that is based at the UvA. Finally, as programme director, he will be responsible for the executive programmes for Internal Auditing and IT Auditing.

Roos Lindgreen has worked for KPMG Advisory since 1996, and has been a partner there since 2001. Roos Lindgreen lectures on the Privacy minor at the UvA and is a member of the Board of Governors for the Audit programmes of Amsterdam Business School. From 2002 to 2012 Roos Lindgreen was Professor of IT in Auditing at the UvA. At that time he was also programme director of the Amsterdam IT Audit Programme of Amsterdam Business School. Roos Lindgreen is co-founder of the Amsterdam Platform for Privacy Research and co-organiser of the triennial Amsterdam Privacy Conference. Roos Lindgreen was awarded an IT degree from the UvA and a doctorate from Delft University of Technology for his research into the practical applicability of information security techniques.

Roos Lindgreen holds a number of advisory roles, amongst others as member of the advisory boards of QuestionMark and the Faculty of Economics and Business.
