The Van der Schroeff Award for the best lecturer at UvA Economics and Business was awarded to Lisanne van Bunderen. The winner was announced during the New Year’s event on 17 January. “It was really enjoyable to teach, the students reacted very well.”

This year’s members of the Van der Schroeff Award jury were: Han van Dissel (Dean), Peter van Baalen, Massimo Giuliodori, Mark van der Veen and Lubica Hamarova. They combined the submitted nominations with the results of the course evaluations to select three outstanding lecturers. The jury gave the following reasons for their selection:

Ltr: Lubica Hamarova, Han van Dissel, Lisanne van Bunderen, Torsten Jochem, Marcelo Pedroni.

First place: Lisanne van Bunderen
After carefully reading all the reasons she should be considered, the jury decided to award Lisanne van Bunderen with the Van der Schroeff Award. She is the coordinator and principal lecturer of the Organisational Behaviour course in the first year of the BSc Business Administration programme. “We felt it is especially impressive that in her first year at the ABS she already took on the coordination of this very big course of 850 first-year students. In itself this is already quite an achievement.” Next to coordinating the course successfully, Van Bunderen also was the principal lecturer of the course and the only lecturer of all the large-scale lectures. According to the jury she received very excellent personal teaching evaluations for all evaluation criteria.

Second place: Torsten Jochem
The second prize is for lecturer Torsten Jochem who consistently receives excellent student assessments for years, both for the course design and for his teaching. Jochem teaches the course Investment and Portfolio Theory I. This is a compulsory course in the third-year of the Economics and Finance track and the second year of the Finance and Organisation track. “Jochem was so far the best lecturer of this programme”, says one of his students.

Third place: Marcelo Pedroni
The third place was won by Marcelo Pedroni who is involved in two courses within the MSc Economics: Macroeconomics and Economic Growth. Students especially appreciate his concise and very precise approach. “The remarks of students praise his ‘passion’, ‘enthusiasm’, and how he structured and presented difficult topics and techniques.
