New Internal Auditing Master’s programme at the UvA

13 February 2018

The Executive MSc of Internal Auditing (EMIA) received formal accreditation from the Accreditation Organisation of the The Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO) on 13 February. Starting now, students who successfully complete the programme will receive the academic title of Master of Science (MSc).

Over the past year the programme’s management team and lecturers put in a great deal of effort to obtain this prestigious, coveted accreditation.

Programme director Prof. Edo Roos Lindgreen RE is extremely pleased with the accreditation “This accreditation is a sign of recognition and it gives both our students and their employers confidence in the quality of our programme and team of lecturers. The accreditation raises the standing and value of our graduates in the labour market.”

The part-time Internal Auditor MSc programme allows participants to obtain the title of RO within two-and-a-half years. The interactive lectures take place on Fridays at the Amsterdam Business School in central Amsterdam. The programme is in compliance with the exit qualifications set by the SVRO, the professional association for Operational Auditors in the Netherlands.

The Internal Auditor

Internal Auditing involves an independent and objective audit of operational management, risk management and compliance within organisations. Internal Auditors report their findings to management and provide both solicited and unsolicited recommendations.  In this role, the Internal Auditor offers significant added value. Management has extra certainty regarding the quality of operational management, and the Internal Auditor identifies irregularities at an early stage so they can be effectively dealt with.

New developments

According to Roos Lindgreen, the accreditation marks the beginning of new developments.  “We are continuously investing in the modernisation of our curriculum. In the coming time we are going to focus on two subjects: behaviour and culture on the one hand, and data science on the other.”
The University of Amsterdam has developed a special programme for the latter: Data Science for Auditors. This programme will be integrated in the Internal Auditing Master’s programme.
